International Energy Network learned that on the evening of June 27, the Three Gorges Group issued an announcement on the investment decision of the Ordos Central and Northern New Energy Base Project in the Kubuqi Desert, Inner Mongolia.
The announcement stated that the Inner Mongolia Kubuqi Desert Ordos Central and Northern New Energy Base Project (hereinafter referred to as the Kubuqi Base Project) invested and constructed by China Three Gorges New Energy (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Three Gorges Energy or the Company) will build a total of 8 million kilowatts of photovoltaic power, 4 million kilowatts of wind power, 200,000 kilowatts of solar thermal power, 4 million kilowatts of supporting coal-fired power projects and 5 million kilowatt-hours of new energy storage.
The investment subject of the Kubuqi Base Project is the company's indirect holding company, Inner Mongolia Three Gorges Mengneng Energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Three Gorges Mengneng Company), and the dynamic investment amount of the Kubuqi Base Project is 79,791,850,000 yuan. The company held the 23rd meeting of the second board of directors on June 27, 2024, and reviewed and approved the "Proposal on the Investment Decision of the Ordos Central and Northern New Energy Base Project in the Kubuqi Desert, Inner Mongolia". The board of directors agreed that the company's indirect holding company, Three Gorges Mengneng Company, would invest in the construction of the Kubuqi Base Project. The investment matters of the Kubuqi Base Project are within the approval authority of the company's board of directors and do not need to be submitted to the company's shareholders' meeting for review. The photovoltaic project and solar thermal project of the Kubuqi Base have been filed, and the wind power project and coal-fired power project have been approved. All procedures are being handled in an orderly manner.
The announcement further stated that the Kubuqi base project is a major national project planned and actively promoted by the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration. The project has innovated the organizational form of large-scale wind power and photovoltaic bases, explored and promoted the innovation of multi-energy complementary technologies of "wind, light, fire and storage", and the innovation of coal-fired power and new energy joint venture models, coordinated ecology, development and safety, and can achieve large-scale development of clean energy and a high proportion of external transmission and consumption, achieving win-win social, ecological and economic benefits.
